◇Customer Service (General) answer

Why are customer service agents outsourced?

SHORT ANSWER

Many companies hire contact-center firms to run support. The agent who answers is then employed by that firm, not by the brand you bought from. Your contract is still with the brand. Under the respondeat superior doctrine an employer or principal is generally responsible for wrongful acts of its employees or agents within the scope of the work, but the details depend on state law and the facts.

01

What to do now

  1. Raise problems with the brand, not the individual agent.
  2. Get a ticket number and a deadline for every escalation.
  3. If a company will not give you a final answer and you think its practice is deceptive, you can report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov or to your state attorney general. Card charges can be disputed with your card issuer within the Fair Credit Billing Act time limits.
What changes the outcome

The outsourcer is the agent's employer. The brand is the party you deal with for refunds, warranties and billing.

02

Who owns the resolution

The brand (or whoever it authorizes) decides refunds and credits. Courts decide liability disputes.

03

Evidence to prepare

  • Order number and receipts
  • Date, time and channel of each contact
  • Ticket numbers
  • Chat transcripts or notes of what you were told

The policy question: Why are customer service agents outsourced?
Useful context I found: Many companies hire contact-center firms to run support. The agent who answers is then employed by that firm, not by the brand you bought from. Your contract is still with the brand. Under the respondeat superior doctrine an employer or principal is generally responsible for wrongful acts of its employees or agents within the scope of the work, but the details depend on state law and the facts.

My specific situation: [Describe what happened, including dates and messages shown]
The outcome I want: [Refund, verification, appeal, account recovery, explanation, etc.]
Important constraints: [Country, deadline, booking/account status, documents already submitted, budget, or other limits]

Please:
1. Identify any missing facts you need before reaching a conclusion.
2. Separate platform policy, local law, and your own inference.
3. Give me the safest next steps in priority order.
4. Use current official sources where possible and flag anything that may have changed.
5. Draft a concise message I can paste to customer support.
6. Do not invent account access, guarantees, refund rights, or legal conclusions.

Why this policy exists

The chain is: brand → contact-center operator → site managers → agents → you.

What the outsourcer earns (SEC filings, ratios calculated by AMS): Concentrix reported revenue of $9.62 billion in fiscal 2024 with cost of revenue at 64.1% of revenue and an operating margin of 6.2%; in fiscal 2025 it reported an operating loss. TTEC reported operating losses in fiscal 2024 and 2025. Margins are thin, so lower contract prices put pressure on staffing, training time and tools (AMS interpretation).

How much a given brand saves by outsourcing is not public. AMS did not find a brand that discloses both its contract price and its in-house cost.
