I keep getting asked for a PIN every time I try to watch mature content, even though it's my own account?

SHORT ANSWER

A parental/maturity-rating lock is active on that profile — once enabled, it applies every time, even to the account owner, until it's turned off.

Why this policy exists

Netflix lets you lock content above a certain maturity rating behind a separate PIN, independent of your account password. Once that setting is active on a profile, it requires the PIN every single time content above that rating is opened — even for the account owner — because the feature exists for households sharing a profile with children, and doesn't distinguish "who's currently holding the remote." If you're the only user but still get prompted, an old maturity lock is still active; you can adjust or remove it from Account > Profile Lock settings.
