Can tourists get a tax refund at Daiso Korea?
Sometimes. Daiso has added on-site tax refunds at tourist-heavy stores such as Myeong-dong Station, but not every store offers it, and Daiso does not publish a list. Korea's rules also set a floor: a single purchase must be at least ₩15,000. With immediate refund, you show your passport at the register and pay the price with tax already taken off.
What to do now
- Bring your physical passport. The register needs it to apply the refund.
- Before paying, ask the cashier "Tax free, please" and check whether that store offers it.
- Pay for everything you want refunded in one transaction so it reaches ₩15,000.
- Keep the goods unopened until you leave Korea, and take them out of the country within 3 months.
- If the store gives you a refund receipt instead of taking the tax off at the register, claim it at the airport when you leave: show the goods, the receipt and your passport to customs, then collect the refund at the refund counter or kiosk.
Three things decide it: whether that store offers tax refunds at all, whether one payment is at least ₩15,000, and whether you are an eligible visitor (generally a stay of 6 months or less). Opened or used items do not qualify.
Who owns the resolution
Korea's tax refund rules set who qualifies and the amounts. Each store decides whether to offer the service. Airport customs may check the goods when you claim a refund on departure.
Evidence to prepare
- Your passport (original)
- The tax refund receipt the store gives you
- The goods, unopened, for the airport check if asked

Give another AI the facts it needs—not just “what should I do?”
I need practical help with a Daiso Korea issue. The policy question: Can tourists get a tax refund at Daiso Korea? Useful context I found: Sometimes. My specific situation: [Describe what happened, including dates and messages shown] The outcome I want: [Refund, verification, appeal, account recovery, explanation, etc.] Important constraints: [Country, deadline, booking/account status, documents already submitted, budget, or other limits] Please: 1. Identify any missing facts you need before reaching a conclusion. 2. Separate platform policy, local law, and your own inference. 3. Give me the safest next steps in priority order. 4. Use current official sources where possible and flag anything that may have changed. 5. Draft a concise message I can paste to customer support. 6. Do not invent account access, guarantees, refund rights, or legal conclusions.
Why this policy exists
Two separate sets of rules apply: Korea's national tax refund rules, and whether the particular store has signed up.
Korea's rules (VisitKorea guide, October 20, 2025):
· Who qualifies: foreigners staying in Korea up to 6 months, and overseas Koreans who have lived abroad 2+ years and stay 3 months or less.
· Immediate refund at the register: each payment from ₩15,000 to under ₩1,000,000, up to ₩5,000,000 in total for the trip. Korea doubled these limits on January 1, 2024 (from ₩500,000 per purchase and ₩2.5 million in total).
· Refund at departure instead: each purchase from ₩15,000. VisitKorea's guide gives no per-transaction maximum for this route, so check the current guide before you travel. You show the goods, the refund receipt and your passport at the airport.
· The goods must leave Korea within 3 months, and items you opened or used before leaving do not qualify.
The Daiso part: Korea JoongAng Daily reported in May 2026 that Daiso introduced on-site tax refund systems and hired multilingual staff at stores busy with tourists, and named the Myeong-dong Station store (12 floors since 2024). The report does not say which other stores offer it.
Most Daiso items cost ₩1,000 to ₩5,000, so a refund only applies once one payment reaches ₩15,000.
