Why this policy exists
Ahead of Disney+'s 2019 launch, Disney pulled all Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and Disney Animation titles from Netflix for its own platform. HBO/Warner Bros. did the same with Game of Thrones, Chernobyl, and Band of Brothers, concentrating them on Max. Disney resumed licensing some content to Netflix from 2023, but Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and Disney Animation stay excluded — a partial truce, not reconciliation. Interestingly, most Studio Ghibli films ARE available on Netflix Korea; the actual exceptions are Japan (no streaming deal at all) and the US/Canada (rights held by Max). The common thread: each media company is locking its own IP behind its own platform to sell duplicate subscriptions.
