16 questions answered
- Can tourists get a tax refund at Daiso Korea?Sometimes. Daiso has added on-site tax refunds at tourist-heavy stores such as Myeong-dong Station, but not every store offers it, and Daiso does not publish a list. Korea's rules also set a floor: a single purchase must be at least ₩15,000. With immediate refund, you show your passport at the register and pay the price with tax already taken off.
- Can I pay at Daiso Korea with a foreign credit card?Foreign cards are widely used at Daiso Korea: payments with foreign cards there grew 50% in 2024, 60% in 2025 and another 70% in the first three months of 2026, according to Korea JoongAng Daily. Daiso does not publish a list of accepted card networks for its stores, so carry a second card or some cash in case one is declined.
- What is Daiso Korea's return and exchange policy?Within 2 weeks of purchase, with the receipt. Exchanges can be done at the store where you bought the item or a nearby company-run store. Refunds are only possible at the store where you bought it. The item has to be unused with its packaging, plastic wrap and tags intact. If it is defective, take it to the store to have it checked.
- Can I order from Daiso Korea online and ship it overseas? No. Daiso's official FAQ says Daiso Mall, its online store, does not ship overseas. Orders are also members-only, and sign-up uses Korean identity verification. To get Daiso Korea products abroad, you buy them in a store while in Korea.
- Can I take Daiso cosmetics, sunscreen and sprays on the plane?Yes, within the liquid rules. In carry-on bags, each liquid, gel or cream (lotion, sunscreen, lip gloss) must be in a container of 100 ml or less, and all of them must fit in one transparent 1-litre zip bag per person. In checked bags there is no volume limit for cosmetics, but sprays are limited to 500 ml each and 2 kg in total.
- Can I fly home with a power bank or batteries from Daiso Korea?A power bank must go in your carry-on, never your checked bag. Under rules Korea applied from April 20, 2026, you can carry up to two power banks of 160 Wh or less, and you may not charge them from the seat outlet or use them to charge another device during the flight. Power banks over 100 Wh need airline approval, and over 160 Wh are not allowed.
- Are Daiso Korea K-beauty products the same as the versions sold elsewhere? It depends on the product, and the label is the way to tell. AMS compared three VT Reedle Shot pairs sold at Daiso and on Kurly (October 9, 2026). Reedle Shot 100 and 300 had the same manufacturer, responsible seller, country of manufacture, functional claims and the same 43-ingredient list in the same order. The collagen one did not match: Daiso sells "S50" while Kurly sells "100", with the same 31 ingredients in a different order.
- Is Daiso Korea the same company as Daiso Japan? No. Daiso in Korea is run by Asung Daiso, a Korean company. The DAISO stores in Japan, the US and most other countries belong to Daiso Industries of Japan. Daiso Industries used to own 34.21% of Asung Daiso, but that stake was bought out in 2023, and Asung HMP (76%) is now the main shareholder. Products and prices differ between the two.
- Why is Daiso Korea so cheap?Daiso Korea sets the price first and designs the product to fit it. It uses six fixed price points from ₩500 to ₩5,000, and reportedly lowers unit costs through large orders, paying suppliers in cash and long-term deals. It still makes a profit: ₩371.1 billion operating profit on ₩3.97 trillion revenue in 2024. Per-item cost and margin are not published.
- Why do Daiso Korea products say Made in China if Daiso is Korean?Because the brand, the seller and the place of manufacture are different things. The country of origin shows where the item was actually made. For example, Daiso's own-brand Neocell AA alkaline batteries list the brand as Daiso, the country of manufacture as China and the importer as Asung HMP, while the VT Reedle Shot sold in the same stores is made in Korea.
- What do tourists buy at Daiso Korea?Korea JoongAng Daily (May 2026) reported that tourists mostly buy snacks such as honey-flavoured treats, traditional sweets and hangwa; cosmetics such as sheet masks, lip tints, sunscreens and skincare ampoules at ₩1,000 to ₩5,000; Korean-themed souvenirs and character keyrings; and travel accessories. AMS does not rank or recommend products; below are the checks that matter before you buy.
- What are Daiso Korea's opening hours?Standard hours are 10 am to 10 pm. Some stores open earlier or close later, so Daiso suggests checking the exact hours for a store in its store search (Korean) or by calling 1522-4400. Shopping bags cost extra, and toilets depend on the store.
- Can I film or take photos inside Daiso Korea? Not by default. Daiso's official FAQ says photographing store facilities, fixtures and products without prior agreement with head office is generally not allowed. A store manager can allow it depending on the situation, so ask before you film.
- I left something at a Daiso store in Korea. How do I get it back?Items found in Daiso stores are registered with the Korean police lost-and-found system within a week, according to Daiso's FAQ. Search found items on the police portal (Police Civil Service 24) using the storage location "다이소(store name)", then bring ID to the storage place and give the item's reference number.
- I lost my receipt. Can the store still find my purchase?Often yes. If you bought in a store and paid by card or earned membership points, the store can look the purchase up from that record. Normal-condition items can then be exchanged or refunded within 14 days.
- How can I check which Daiso branch has the item I want?Use the per-store stock lookup on Daiso's customer site, which Daiso says is open 24 hours. The official FAQ does not say that staff will check stock for you on request, so confirm with the store before you travel.
